What is GetInsta?
GetInsta is a free, independent web tool for downloading Instagram content that's already publicly accessible — videos, Reels, photos, profile pictures, and audio. Paste a public post's link and GetInsta finds the highest-quality version Instagram makes available.
Is GetInsta affiliated with Instagram?
No. GetInsta is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc. It's an independent, unofficial tool built on top of Instagram's public web pages.
Do I need an Instagram password?
No, and GetInsta will never ask for one. It has no concept of an Instagram login at all — it only reads the same public page content anyone can already view while logged out.
Can I download private posts?
No. Because GetInsta never logs in to Instagram, it can only reach content Instagram already serves to a logged-out visitor. Private accounts and login-required content are outside its reach by design, not by choice — there's no way to offer that honestly without asking for your credentials, which GetInsta refuses to do.
Which content types are supported?
Video, Reels, Photo, profile pictures (DP), and Audio are supported today, with one limitation: carousel posts (multiple photos/videos in one post) currently return only the first item. Stories are not supported — see the Supported Content page for the full breakdown and why.
Why did my download fail?
The most common reasons: the account or post is private, the link doesn't point to supported public content, the link was copied incompletely, or Instagram changed something about how it serves that content since GetInsta last checked. See How to Download for the full list.
Why is a Reel unavailable?
Usually because the Reel is on a private account, or Instagram is temporarily rate-limiting requests for that content. GetInsta tries multiple ways to locate a Reel's video before giving up, but it will never guess or substitute a lower-quality file if it genuinely can't find one.
Can I use GetInsta on mobile?
Yes. GetInsta works in any modern mobile browser on phones and tablets, in the same way it works on desktop — no app install needed.
Where are downloaded files saved?
Wherever your browser normally saves downloads — typically a "Downloads" folder on desktop, or your device's default download location on mobile. This is controlled by your browser, not by GetInsta.
Is GetInsta free?
Yes, GetInsta is free to use. The service is supported by advertising rather than a paywall or account requirement.
Can I download copyrighted content?
You're responsible for having the right to download and reuse any content you retrieve — typically that it's your own or you have the owner's permission. A post being publicly viewable on Instagram doesn't by itself give you the right to reuse it elsewhere. See the DMCA & Copyright page.
Why can Instagram changes affect downloads?
GetInsta works by reading Instagram's own public pages and using extraction tooling built against Instagram's current structure. Instagram can change that structure at any time without notice, which can temporarily break specific content types until the underlying tooling or our own code catches up. We report a clear error when that happens rather than pretending it worked.
Does GetInsta store downloaded media?
No. Media is streamed from Instagram's public servers through to your browser and is not kept afterward. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail on what is and isn't processed.
