How to download Instagram content

The same short flow works for public videos, Reels, photos, profile pictures, and audio. Here's exactly what happens at each step.

   Open the public post on Instagram

   In the Instagram app or on instagram.com, open the video, Reel, photo, or profile you want — anything you could already view without logging in.

   Copy its link

   Tap the share icon (or the ⋯ menu) and choose "Copy Link." On desktop, you can copy it straight from your browser's address bar.

   Pick the matching content type on GetInsta

   Select Video, Reels, Photo, DP, or Audio above the input box. GetInsta detects the real content type from the link either way — this just sets the right placeholder and help text.

   Paste the link

   Click into the input field (it automatically selects any existing text so a fresh paste replaces it) and paste your copied link, or use the Paste button.

   Click Download

   GetInsta checks the link and looks for the highest-quality version of that media Instagram makes publicly available. This usually takes a few seconds.

   Continue past the brief screen

   A short interstitial (which keeps GetInsta free to use) appears before your file downloads. Once its countdown finishes, click Continue to start the download.

   Save the file

   Your browser downloads the file automatically, the same way any other file download works. Check your device's Downloads folder if you don't see it right away.

Common reasons a download can fail

GetInsta can't guarantee every Instagram link will work — it depends on the content genuinely being public and on Instagram's own site continuing to serve it the way we expect. The most common reasons a download doesn't go through:

• The account or specific post is private — GetInsta never asks for an Instagram login, so it can only reach what's already public.
• The link doesn't point to supported public content (for example, a Story link — see why on the FAQ page).
• The link was cut off or modified when it was copied or pasted.
• Instagram changed something about how it serves that content since GetInsta last checked — this can happen without notice and isn't something we can predict.
